Antwerp (Belgium), 1 July (LaPresse) – At least five people have died and several others have been injured in Belgium following a fire that broke out in a block of flats in Antwerp, according to local police. The fire broke out mid-morning on the eighth floor of a 10-storey residential block, home to over 200 people, in the Linkeroever district. Thick plumes of smoke rose from the building. “At present, unfortunately, at least five people have lost their lives in the fire. There are also a significant number of seriously injured people, as well as several with minor injuries,” said Kim Bastiaens, a spokesperson for the Antwerp police, speaking to the private Belgian broadcaster Vtm.
