Najaf (Iraq), 8 July (LaPresse/AP) – Funeral processions for the late Iranian Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, have begun in the Iraqi city of Najaf, attended by thousands of mourners. Khamenei’s body arrived yesterday in the Iraqi city, considered one of the holiest sites for millions of Shia Muslims worldwide, accompanied by Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and other senior officials. The funeral prayers in Najaf will be held at the Shrine of Imam Ali, cousin and son-in-law of the Prophet Muhammad, and will be led by Muhammad Taqi al-Hakim, a prominent scholar at the Najaf seminary.
