Rome, 12 July (LaPresse) – “Iran has made the wrong choice. It is now paying the price.” US Secretary of Defence Pete Hegseth wrote this on X, attaching to the message the Centcom post announcing the launch of new US attacks on Iran. The post states that US Central Command forces have launched the third series of attacks this week against Iran, after forces of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps “blatantly attacked the M/V GFS Galaxy, a Cypriot-flagged container ship that was transiting the Strait of Hormuz. One civilian crew member is missing and the vessel is unable to continue its journey due to a fire on board and severe damage to the engine room. Iran was given yet another opportunity to demonstrate its compliance with the Memorandum of Understanding after being held responsible for previous attacks on merchant ships, but it has failed once again. In response, the United States is exacting a heavy price by continuing to reduce Iran’s ability to attack civilian seafarers and merchant ships transiting freely through the Strait.”
