Turin, 20 July (LaPresse) – Khalil al-Hayya has been appointed as the new leader of Hamas. The organisation announced this in a statement reported by the Israeli media. Al-Hayya, who previously served as head of Hamas’s political bureau in Gaza, was elected as the new leader in internal elections. The senior official was Hamas’s chief negotiator during the ceasefire talks aimed at ending the war in Gaza, which began following the attack on 7 October 2023.
