From 00:01 on Friday, dozens of US trading partners, from Europe to China and India, will be subject to new tariffs ranging from 10 per cent to 12.5 per cent on goods exported to the United States, according to a statement issued by the Office of the US Trade Representative. The entry into force of the new measures coincides with the expiry of the 10 per cent blanket tariff that Trump had imposed at the start of the year, after losing a case before the Supreme Court. “The President will not allow his trade policy and his overall objectives to be compromised simply because one of the tools at his disposal might be limited by a court ruling or other factors,” senior White House officials told reporters during a conference call to present the new measures, as reported by CNN.
