This was reported by Axios in an article by journalist Barak Ravid, citing two sources familiar with the decision. The president’s directive came after he had authorised daily strikes over the previous 13 days, but Axios points out that it is unclear whether Trump’s order on Friday was an isolated incident or whether the truce is set to continue. The sources clarified, however, that the US military is still drawing up plans for a possible return to large-scale combat operations, but Trump has not issued any orders to that effect. On Friday, Trump received a similar plan but did not give the go-ahead. Instead, he ordered the armed forces not to carry out any strikes, the sources reported. Shortly after issuing Friday’s directive, Trump told reporters at the White House that he had the option to continue the attacks or even intensify them, going so far as to “destroy everything they have”.
