Madrid (Spain), 27 July (LaPresse) – Since the start of the year, wildfires in Spain “have destroyed 150,000 hectares, and 13 people have died”; over “3,800 people” have lost their lives due to the heat; “the figures are clear: the climate emergency is killing people”. This was stated by Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez, speaking about the wildfires currently affecting Spain, at the launch of the Climate Refuge Network in Madrid. “For this reason,” the Socialist leader continued, “it is not enough to tackle the consequences” but we must “reduce the causes, anticipate the effects and better prepare our country to protect people’s lives”.
