Turin, 27 July (LaPresse) – British Prime Minister Andy Burnham is meeting Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelensky today. The meeting is taking place at a UK naval base, demonstrating Britain’s unconditional support for Ukraine. The Ukrainian president will be the new Labour leader’s first international guest since he was handed the keys to Downing Street last Monday, following Keir Starmer’s resignation last month. The two will meet 200 Ukrainian soldiers and sailors who have been taking part in the Sea Breeze exercise for three weeks – a naval security and mine-clearing operation – to prepare them for future missions in the Black Sea. During the visit, the UK will also announce the sharing of intellectual property relating to British frequency jammers used to interfere with Russian air defence systems. Known as ‘Stone Cloak’, these signal jammers are the size of a tablet and are already in use in Ukraine, where they are fitted to drones to prevent them from being tracked and targeted. But thanks to the sharing of intellectual property, Ukraine will now be able to mass-produce these devices. “Britain stands with Ukraine, shoulder to shoulder, and our support remains unwavering,” said the Prime Minister. “Russia,” he added, “must not doubt our resolve, and we will not give up until we have achieved a lasting and just peace for Ukraine.” Zelensky’s last visit to the UK was last month, when he met King Charles.
