Cairo (Egypt), Jul. 29 (LaPresse) – The Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF), a coalition of predominantly Shiite armed groups supported by Iran and officially under the command of the Iraqi army, said in a statement that at least 20 fighters were killed and another 32 injured in overnight strikes launched by the United States and Saudi Arabia against their positions in several areas of Iraq. Iraqi Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi called an emergency meeting of the country’s National Security Council to discuss the attacks. The Saudi Ministry of Defense confirmed the strikes in a social media post, warning that “the Kingdom stresses that it does not seek escalation, but will respond to any aggression it suffers.”
