Turin, 1 August (LaPresse) – Spain’s policy is one that “encourages irregular immigration. We have a different migration policy”. This was stated by the Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Antonio Tajani, in an interview on the talk show ‘L’Estate del Principe’. The migration crisis in Ceuta “may have been caused by Spain’s excessive willingness, but perhaps also by Morocco’s excessive willingness to let people cross the border,” he explained. “The difference between us and them – that is, between Italian and Spanish immigration policy – is substantial. Spain has decided to regularise half a million migrants living on Spanish territory. Almost a million people have applied,” he continued. “Regularising a million migrants in a country that is part of the European Union means jeopardising the entire system because they will become Spanish citizens. And if they become Spanish citizens, they become European citizens. And we cannot afford to have a million more people on our continent, especially people who have entered the European continent illegally,” he added. “In our view, this is a policy that encourages irregular immigration.
