(LaPresse/AP) – Gil Arias, who served as executive deputy director of the European border control agency Frontex from 2006 to 2016 and also worked for the Spanish Ministries of the Interior and Migration, said he was convinced that Morocco was not only aware of the mass arrival of migrants in Ceuta, but had been directly or indirectly complicit in it. “I have no doubt whatsoever,” Arias told the Associated Press. “This is not simply happening because of a passive attitude or an omission on Morocco’s part: there was an invitation, or it was even encouraged,” added the former deputy director, who retired in 2020.
