The detonator, authorities explained, was defective, which is why no explosion occurred. A remotely operated bomb disposal robot was used to neutralize the object. According to the German newspaper Bild, investigators have classified the discovery as a possible explosive device. Following the discovery of the drone with the suspicious object near a Ukrainian Antonov cargo aircraft, Leipzig/Halle Airport suspended flight operations during the night between Tuesday and Wednesday. Several aircraft, including a passenger plane, were diverted, according to a statement from the Leipzig Police Department. DHL’s chief executive said that during the night one of the company’s aircraft had collided with an unidentified object. Following the incident, the aircraft was diverted to Hanover. According to the police, the suspicious object was found near the airport’s southern runway.
