Washington (US), 8 Aug. (LaPresse/AP) – The US Senate has confirmed Todd Blanche as the next Attorney General. The vote, which concluded on Saturday morning with 50 votes in favour and 49 against, came at the end of a bitter battle that highlighted deep concerns within both parties regarding the appointment of President Donald Trump’s former personal lawyer as head of the Department of Justice. Although Blanche is already leading the department as acting Attorney General, his confirmation could enable him to pursue the Trump administration’s agenda even more aggressively. Blanche’s supporters argue that his experience as a federal prosecutor and the trust he has earned whilst working for Trump as his personal lawyer will help him fulfil the role.
