(LaPresse/AP) – In the United States, firefighters in California are battling a wildfire that has burnt around 12 square kilometres in the Big Sur region, along the state’s rugged central coastline. State parks in the area have been closed and evacuation orders have been issued, including for an 11-kilometre stretch of Highway 1, the state’s iconic coastal road. According to the California Highway Patrol, some sections of the motorway have been closed due to the flames and evacuations. Along the Nevada-California border, a fire spreading rapidly north of Reno has now covered an area of around 234 square kilometres. More than 4,000 people and families have been evacuated.
