(LaPresse/AP) – Nigel Farage has defeated the satirical candidate Count Binface, known for wearing a rubbish bin, regaining the parliamentary seat from which he had resigned a month ago to trigger a by-election. Farage secured 22,239 votes, whilst Binface, who came second, received nearly 9,500. The election, held on the hottest day of the year so far, saw a turnout of 44 per cent. Farage, leader of the anti-immigration party Reform UK and regarded by some as a potential future prime minister, had suddenly resigned from his seat in July, during an investigation into whether he had failed to declare a £5 million donation received from a cryptocurrency billionaire based abroad. He stated that he would stand for the vacant seat to prove he had the support of the electorate.
