The discovery of a further 22 bodies, as reported by the police, has brought the death toll to 68, including 18 children. The ferry was travelling from the town of Kariba to rural and fishing communities in the north-west of the country, where roads are damaged and public transport is scarce. The authorities have not specified how many people were on board or how many are still missing. According to some estimates, the number of passengers could be as high as 153, whilst the authorities state that the ferry’s capacity is 90 people. The emergency management agency has stated that 77 people have been rescued.
