Migrants: emergency plan in Ceuta to transfer 500 children to Spain

Turin, 19 Aug. (LaPresse) – Spain is set to launch an emergency plan to transfer around 500 migrant children from Ceuta to the mainland. The government of the autonomous city and the Ministry of Youth and Children have already begun the first phase, and the children will be urgently accommodated in six facilities. “We are seeking an effective solution that does not require direct reception by the autonomous communities, using resources similar to those established for the transfer of child asylum seekers from the Canary Islands, managed by organisations in accordance with a Supreme Court ruling. The transfers are being carried out under an arrangement which the autonomous communities cannot oppose, as they are not directly assuming responsibility for the care of the minors”, ministerial sources told Cadena Ser, estimating that the total number of minors in the city “is no more than 3,000”. According to the sources, implementing the plan “will take more than a month, or perhaps two”.
