(LaPresse) – MEP Raphaël Glucksmann announced yesterday that he is standing as a candidate in next year’s presidential election in France. “I have always said that I want to fight this battle alongside my socialist friends. We will win the presidential election,” he told TF1. His candidacy must be confirmed by the primaries to be held in October between his party, Place Publique (PP), and the Socialist Party (PS). He stands at around 10 per cent in the polls but has repeatedly been criticised by forces on the left, particularly by La France Insoumise, which has portrayed him as a bourgeois Parisian intellectual who could follow the same political trajectory as Emmanuel Macron – starting out on the centre-left and ending up on the right.
