(LaPresse) – Chinese President Xi Jinping has ordered a search and rescue operation for people missing following a landslide this morning in Nepal that killed people at the Gyirong border crossing with China. Chinese state news agency Xinhua reported this, adding that the landslide that hit near Gyirong caused the disruption of roads leading to the crossing on the Chinese side, as well as communications and electricity supplies. The BBC reports that flash floods have hit an area of northern Nepal, near the border with Tibet, and many casualties are feared.
