(LaPresse/AP) – The death toll from the catastrophic floods in Nepal and China has risen to over 1,000, according to authorities, whilst rescue teams were working to reach communities cut off by the disaster. The Nepalese Emergency Management Agency stated on Tuesday that 987 people had been confirmed dead and 3,916 were missing, including 583 foreigners. The Chinese authorities reported 16 deaths in their latest update on Sunday. The disaster on Wednesday began with a series of events at high altitude in the Himalayas. A glacier collapse sent large quantities of rock, ice and meltwater tumbling into the valleys below, causing severe flooding downstream.
