Oslo (Norway), 1 Sept. (LaPresse/AP) – Haakon VIII, the new King of Norway, has sworn an oath of allegiance to the country’s Constitution before Parliament. He was driven in an open-top car along the short route from the Royal Palace to the Storting, the Norwegian Parliament. There, Speaker Masud Gharahkhani read out the official announcement of Harald’s death and Haakon’s accession. Haakon, aged 53, then took the oath. “I promise and swear that I shall govern the Kingdom of Norway in accordance with its Constitution and laws; may God, the Almighty and All-Knowing, help me,” he said. King Harald V died on Friday at the age of 89.
