Cairo (Egypt), Sept. 5 (LaPresse) – The US military said it had struck three Iranian oil tankers after some Navy warships were targeted by missiles. The military statement issued today said that an aircraft carrier and a destroyer had evaded “multiple unprovoked Iranian attacks” and that no US personnel had been injured. It also said that two Iranian oil tankers had been “permanently put out of service” and that the third, which was not carrying cargo, had been destroyed. The US statement specified that the tankers were part of a covert network that helps finance Iran’s powerful Revolutionary Guard. Earlier, Iran had accused the United States of attacking an Iranian oil tanker near Kharg Island in the Persian Gulf.
