Rome, Sept. 7 (LaPresse) – Russia has revoked its consent for the operation of the German Consulate General in St. Petersburg. The Russian Foreign Ministry announced this in a statement reported by Tass. The Consulate, it explained, must cease its activities by September 18 and all its employees must leave Russian territory. Moscow described the move as “retaliatory measures” in response to “hostile actions by the German side”, consisting of the closure of the Russian General Consulate in Bonn and the Russian House of Science and Culture in Berlin on September 7. “It was the German authorities who once again provoked a new escalation in bilateral relations. Full responsibility for the consequences lies entirely with the German government,” the statement also said.
