(LaPresse) – US President Donald Trump is continuing his drive to rename certain geographical locations; so, following the Gulf of Mexico – which he renamed the Gulf of the Americas – and Lake Ontario – which, in his words, has become Lake America – New Mexico is now set to be called ‘New America’. Trump posted a photo of the state bearing the new name a few days after signing an executive order to change the name of Lake Ontario to ‘Lake America’. The image, posted on Truth Social and reposted by the White House on X, shows the outline of the state with the word ‘Mexico’ crossed out in red and replaced with ‘America’. No explanation was provided to accompany the image. The White House has not announced any initiative to rename New Mexico. In addition to renaming Lake Ontario at the end of last month, Trump also used an executive order to rename the Gulf of Mexico the Gulf of America in January 2025, on his first day back in the White House.
