(LaPresse) – The Israeli opposition has levelled harsh accusations against Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu following a Haaretz investigation into the warning he is alleged to have received prior to the attacks of 7 October 2023. “He knew. He had been warned,” wrote Yair Golan, leader of the Democratic Party, on X, accusing Netanyahu of “deliberate and criminal dereliction of duty”. Golan described the Prime Minister as “incompetent and illegitimate”, calling for his arrest for “his crimes against the State of Israel”. Democrats MP Gilad Kariv spoke of a “crime against Israeli society and against every citizen of the country”, claiming that Netanyahu had received warnings “from multiple parties and sources” without taking any action. Kariv then called for a state commission of inquiry. Gadi Eisenkot, leader of the Yashar party, also accused Netanyahu of leading Israel “blindly towards disaster” and described him as “unfit for office”, referring to his failure, according to *Haaretz*, to pass on the warning to the security leadership.
