Milan, 9 Sept. (LaPresse/AP) – The trip by US envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner to Moscow and Kyiv was a “productive” initiative, as it set out a path to restart talks between the parties in conflict, with Washington acting as mediator. This was stated by US Secretary of State Marco Rubio. “I don’t want to be overly optimistic, but nor am I pessimistic, in the sense that I believe there is an opportunity, in the coming weeks, to draw up a roadmap to resume talks and perhaps reach a conclusion acceptable to both sides, because that is precisely what will be needed,” said Rubio, adding that in recent months the United States had taken a step back from its role as mediator as it appeared that neither side was making progress towards a solution, but that work now remains to be done to return to the negotiating table.
