(LaPresse/AP) – The police officer accused of shooting dead his wife, a nursery school teacher in eastern Thailand, has surrendered following an overnight standoff with the police, according to local authorities. According to the provincial administration, Tatsapong Tongthat, a police officer stationed at Bang Lamung police station (Chonburi province), killed his wife late on Wednesday morning inside a building at the Nongplalai municipal nursery school, located about 150 kilometres south-east of the capital, Bangkok. The authorities reported that, following the shooting, the man fled to his home; the police surrounded the house, where he remained barricaded until he surrendered after an 18-hour standoff. All 44 pupils at the school were unharmed and were evacuated along with the other teachers immediately after the incident. Lessons have been suspended until Friday as a precaution, officials said.
