Milan, 10 Sept. (LaPresse) – “Europe must play a key role in the talks to achieve peace in Ukraine, but also to guarantee the security of Kyiv and of the continent itself.” In this context, Ukrainian leader Zelensky “must look not so much to individual European nations, but to all EU Member States.” This was stated by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani in an interview with ‘La Stampa’. According to Tajani, “individual or small-group initiatives are of no use”, and indeed it is necessary for “all European Union countries to be committed, because working together gives greater strength to the whole of Europe”. The leader of Forza Italia believes we must “remain optimistic despite the difficulties. We need to achieve a just peace between Ukraine and the Russian Federation. We are well aware that Russia is the aggressor, but we are not at war with Russia”. Furthermore, as Italy, “we will do everything possible to facilitate a ceasefire and, subsequently, peace. Europe can do a great deal, because without Europe, peace cannot be achieved, given that the EU has imposed a series of sanctions on the Russian Federation. If those sanctions are not lifted, a peaceful situation cannot be achieved.”
