The Wall Street Journal reported this, citing U.S. officials familiar with the details of the incident. According to the newspaper, Tehran had obtained high-resolution satellite imagery of the U.S. military base, which was subsequently targeted in the attack. The U.S. officials, the Wall Street Journal further reported, have not identified the Chinese entities that allegedly provided the imagery to Iran, nor directly accused Beijing of being involved. Senior U.S. officials reportedly raised the issue with their Chinese counterparts, who rejected the allegations and asked for evidence. In May, Washington imposed sanctions on three Chinese companies for allegedly providing Iran with this type of satellite imagery.
