Turin, 15 Sept. (LaPresse) – The US Department of Defence has revealed that the United States is facing an ammunition shortage due to the war in Iran. In a report submitted to Congress, the Department’s Inspector General stated, as reported by CBS, that between 28 February and 30 June, Operation ‘Epic Fury’ had an estimated cost of $33.4 billion, of which $22.3 billion was spent exclusively on ammunition used. The report noted that “spending on munitions as part of Operation ‘Enduring Freedom’ has led to strategic shortages in stocks and revealed industrial bottlenecks in the supply of munitions”. The report also lists losses of US military assets, including four F-15s destroyed, one F-35 damaged, seven KC-135 tanker aircraft damaged and up to 30 MQ-9 Reaper drones destroyed. President Donald Trump has repeatedly played down concerns about the depletion of weapons stocks during the six-month war in the Middle East, stating that just a couple of weeks ago the US had “virtually unlimited” ammunition.
