China and Iran are global strategic partners, and China is ready to strengthen dialogue and cooperation with Iran, safeguarding its legitimate rights and interests.” This was stated by Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi at the conclusion of talks with his Iranian counterpart Abbas Araghchi. “The continuation of hostilities between the United States and Iran is not in the common interest of the parties involved nor of the international community. We encourage Iran and the United States to maintain rationality and restraint and to return as soon as possible to the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding, rebuilding, on the basis of the consensus reached so far, a negotiating mechanism and launching substantive consultations on the issues of concern to each party,” he explained. “We support dialogue between Iran and the Gulf states and call on the parties to mutually respect each other’s territorial sovereignty and national security, whilst constructively safeguarding the region’s common interests,” added Wang.
