Turin, 17 Sept. (LaPresse) – “I have just had a telephone conversation with President Zelensky. Russia continues to strike Kyiv relentlessly, seeking to make daily life impossible for its inhabitants. We stand by them. And by all Ukrainians. Tomorrow we will disburse a further €3.3 billion to Ukraine for the purchase of missiles and drones.” This was stated in a press release by the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen. “Last week we approved EU funding for Patriot systems through our support loan to Ukraine. But it is clear that more needs to be done,” she explained. “That is why I have announced that we are ready to use the remaining SAFE funds to launch a new programme of joint EU-Ukraine projects in the defence sector. We want to develop a European air and missile defence system together, based on our jointly developed Freya anti-ballistic system.”
