This was stated by Thomas Regnier, spokesperson for the European Commission’s Defence Directorate-General, during the daily briefing in response to a report published by the Spanish newspaper ‘El Mundo’ regarding a possible threat of Russian attacks against Italy, France and Spain using drones. “We know that our airspace is being tested and has been violated on several occasions, and we are aware that various hybrid attacks are underway, targeting many of our Member States,” he added. The spokesperson further emphasised that the matter “falls within the remit of the national authorities” but “we have a long track record of supporting our Member States when necessary”.
