Milan, 24 September (LaPresse) – The Council of the European Union has announced that it has decided to impose sanctions on Xenia Fedorova, a former senior executive at Russia Today (RT) France, “for her role in Russia’s ongoing hybrid activities and, in particular, for taking part in the manipulation and interference of information abroad, thereby undermining democracy and stability in the EU and its Member States”. “In her capacity as president and director of news at RT France, she was involved in the implementation and dissemination of RT France’s editorial line, including pro-Russian narratives in the context of Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine,” the EU Council stated in a press release, adding that “following the suspension of RT’s broadcasting activities in the EU, Xenia Fedorova has continued to disseminate, via French media outlets such as CNews, Europe 1 and Le JDNews, narratives in line with those promoted by the Russian authorities regarding the war against Ukraine, European support for Ukraine, NATO and relations between Russia and the EU”. The restrictive measures include an asset freeze and a ban on EU companies making funds, financial assets or economic resources available to her.
