(LaPresse/AP) – US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent announced the extension of the truce – under which the two countries have agreed to reduce tariffs and refrain from imposing new trade restrictions – during an interview with Fox News, whilst Trump was welcoming Xi at Joint Base Andrews, on the outskirts of Washington. “I don’t know if it will be possible to reach a broader agreement. I don’t know if we will simply extend the current agreement,” Bessent said in the interview, emphasising that the extension until 10 January could give the leaders more time to discuss the issues at the upcoming international summits to be held in China in November and in Florida in December.
