We’re ahead of China and we’re building facilities worth thousands of billions of dollars”. This was stated by US President Donald Trump during an appearance on the American TV channel Fox News. “Why should we give it up? If there’s something wrong, they’ve got to sort it out,” he added. Trump then confirmed that on Sunday he had dinner at the White House with Anthropic’s chief executive, Dario Amodei; the two discussed artificial intelligence as the United States seeks to maintain its lead over China. “Well, we’ll talk about it,” Trump had previously told Aishah Hasnie, Fox News’ White House correspondent. “My position is: ‘Let’s go and win’,” he added. Trump said he believed the US was “about a year, maybe a year and a half” ahead of China in the development of artificial intelligence. “There’s no one in third place,” he said. “I mean, it’s just us and China. We’re quite a bit ahead,” he added. Trump also stated that on Tuesday he would be meeting other leaders from the artificial intelligence sector at the White House. “As you know, on Tuesday we have a very important meeting which everyone will attend; it will be a crucial meeting,” he concluded.
