(LaPresse/AP) – In the UK, counter-terrorism investigators are trying to establish whether the arrests of five men linked to the explosives alert near the RAF Fairford base have foiled an attempted attack linked to Iran. The men were detained in the early hours of Sunday after three vans were spotted near RAF Fairford, a British-owned base used by American bombers during decades of conflict in the Middle East. Investigators have not yet determined whether the incident constitutes a state-sponsored attack. They are investigating a possible link to Iran, Russia or non-state militant groups. RAF Fairford has also been the scene of protests by peace activists.
