(LaPresse) – Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said he had held talks in New York with Qatari mediators, following which Iran expects a formal response from the United States to its proposal to reopen the Strait of Hormuz. “They put forward some proposals and we had a discussion on the points they will also be putting to the American side,” said Araghchi, “the final response from the United States will be communicated to us later, hopefully by tomorrow (today, ed.).” The Iranian minister added that Tehran’s position has not changed and that the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz depends on certain conditions being met. “At present, the only issue is the Strait of Hormuz,” he explained, “Iran’s conditions are entirely fair and reasonable. If the Americans say they want an agreement or a peaceful solution, we have put forward that solution.”
