Just two weeks ago, Italian jets deployed by NATO at Siauliaii Air Base shot down a drone that had violated Lithuanian airspace. This is collective defence in action. Recent drone incidents along our eastern flank demonstrate the evolving nature of the threat. We are strengthening our integrated air and missile defence: a multi-layered, all-round approach that offers us greater protection against the full range of aerial threats.” This was stated by NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte at a press conference with Lithuanian Prime Minister Mindaugas Sinkevicius. “Through initiatives such as ‘Drone Edge’,” he added, “we are adapting and strengthening our posture against drones. We will deploy more cost-effective anti-drone defence systems, thereby avoiding the use of high-end fighter jets against low-cost threats. NATO will continue to be the shield that protects the skies over Lithuania, the Baltic region and, of course, beyond these borders.”
