Washington (USA), Oct. 1 (LaPresse) – The Iranian delegation to the United Nations denied receiving an order from US Secretary of State Marco Rubio to leave New York earlier than planned. “The Iranian delegation left New York on Monday evening, in accordance with the schedule that had also been communicated in advance to the US State Department on September 17,” the delegation wrote on its official X account. “Having achieved nothing, the State Department resorted to spreading baseless and useless reports,” it added. Two US officials said that Rubio had ordered Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and his delegation at the United Nations General Assembly to leave New York earlier than planned. The Trump administration had granted the Iranians visas to attend the annual UN meeting despite hostilities between the two countries, and Araghchi had then remained in New York to participate in indirect talks with the United States aimed at ending the conflict. According to the sources, after little progress was made during the weekend meetings, Rubio allegedly lost patience and informed the Iranians that Araghchi and his delegation had to leave New York immediately. According to some sources, Araghchi had initially planned to remain in New York until Wednesday, but he and his team instead left very early Tuesday morning, a claim denied by Tehran.
