(LaPresse) – According to the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, in the first eight months of 2026, an average of over 400 civilians were killed or injured each week in Ukraine, representing a 55 per cent increase compared with the same period in 2025. This was stated by High Commissioner Volker Turk to the Human Rights Council. The news has been reported by Ukrainian media. According to the Kyiv Independent, Turk’s office documented 15,280 civilians killed or injured in the first eight months of the year, following the intensification of Russian attacks on civilian infrastructure in recent months. On the front line, the office found that nearly 2,500 civilians were killed or injured by Russian air strikes during the same period, a 62 per cent increase compared with the previous year.
