Milan, 5 Oct. (LaPresse/AP) – The candidate who came third in yesterday’s presidential elections in Brazil, the writer Augusto Cury, has announced on social media that he will support neither Flavio Bolsonaro nor Lula da Silva in the run-off on 25 October. “I will remain silent,” said Cury, who secured around 3 per cent of the vote with 3.4 million votes. Two other candidates, Ronaldo Caiado and Renan Santos, both conservatives, had already expressed the same position previously; together they secured around 4.5 per cent of the vote, equivalent to approximately 5.2 million votes. Bolsonaro’s lead over Lula in the first round stands at around 2.4 million votes. Lula and Bolsonaro now have three weeks to win over moderate voters who did not support them in the first round.
