A journalist and daughter of Altiero Spinelli, one of the founding fathers of the European Union, she had been a member of the European Parliament for the Left. “We learned with sadness and grief of Barbara Spinelli’s passing. For us, she was a friend and colleague who, on many occasions, first as a member of the European Parliament and then as a columnist and intellectual, guided and advised us. With her voice, often critical and always distinctive, Barbara Spinelli kept attention focused on the values of peace, social justice and European integration. We extend our condolences and our closeness to her family. We will miss Barbara terribly.” This was stated in a note by the Five Star Movement delegation in the European Parliament.
