Rome, 9 Oct. (LaPresse) – According to US officials, the US armed forces are preparing options to resume major combat operations against Iran, even though President Trump continues to show ambivalence regarding the resumption of the conflict. The New York Times reports this, adding that three aircraft carriers will soon be deployed to the Middle East – a massive show of force – and that the Pentagon, on Trump’s orders, has drawn up plans to strike Iran’s arsenal of drones and missiles, its energy facilities and other military sites. However, Trump has repeatedly decided against launching large-scale combat operations against Iran. Furthermore, in recent weeks, the US military response to Iran has been more restrained, despite the intensification of Iranian attacks on oil tankers. On Thursday, in a social media post, Trump stated that he would not attack Iran before the mid-term elections and that the two countries were engaged in “productive discussions”.
