Rome, 10 Oct. (LaPresse) – Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas has issued a decree calling for simultaneous presidential and parliamentary elections on 11 September 2027, revoking a previous decree that had set the parliamentary elections for 28 November 2026. The Palestinian news agency Wafa reported the news. “The new decree calls on Palestinians in Jerusalem, the West Bank and the Gaza Strip to take part in free and direct elections to simultaneously elect the President of Palestine and the members of the Palestinian Legislative Council,” Wafa reported. The decree follows a decision by the Executive Committee of the Palestine Liberation Organisation (PLO) and consultations with Palestinian factions and political forces. These steps, Wafa states, have led to a national consensus regarding the obstacles posed by Israeli measures to the holding of elections on the previously set date, as well as the need to create suitable political, security and operational conditions for free, fair and inclusive elections.
