Nashville (Tennessee, US), 10 Oct. (LaPresse/AP) – Christa Pike, the 50-year-old who survived an attempted execution by lethal injection in Tennessee, has been discharged from hospital and has returned to the Deborah K. Johnson Rehabilitation Centre, the women’s prison where she has been held for 30 years, her lawyers said in a statement. “She is grateful to the emergency responders and her medical team for the care provided under these extraordinary circumstances. She continues to receive medical care in prison and we will continue to monitor her recovery,” her lawyers said. Pike survived two doses of pentobarbital when the state attempted to execute her by lethal injection on 30 September for the 1995 shooting and stabbing murder of her classmate Colleen Slemmer. Pike had been in hospital since the failed execution attempt.
