Washington (USA), Oct. 11 (LaPresse) – The United States is considering the possibility of joining Saudi raids against the Houthi rebels. This is what President Donald Trump said following the attack on Riyadh airport: “We could do that. We will assess the situation,” he stated. “We have just learned of the recent attack, so we will make a decision. We act very quickly”. Trump also announced his intention to speak with Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, declaring that “what happened in Saudi Arabia is unacceptable”. Asked about possible US involvement, Trump replied: “We will see”. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio confirmed, in a social media post, that an American citizen had been killed in the attack, which he himself condemned. “These deplorable attacks demonstrate blatant disregard for the lives of innocent civilians. They must stop immediately,” he stated. The latest attack on Riyadh International Airport, in the Saudi capital, killed 12 people and injured more than 300 others – some of whom are in critical condition – according to information provided by civil aviation authorities in the early hours of Sunday. The Saudi-led coalition attributed responsibility for the incident to the Iran-backed Houthi rebels from neighboring Yemen. It was the deadliest attack to have occurred in an Arab Gulf country since the beginning of the conflict linked to Iran, whose fronts have expanded to include the recent intensification of clashes between the Houthis and the Saudi-backed Yemeni government forces.
