Brussels, 12 Oct. (LaPresse) – “Almost all constitutions stipulate that, in the event of war, elections cannot be held. I know that President Zelenskyy has also stated that he is willing to call elections should a ceasefire be reached as soon as possible. But elections inevitably lead to clashes between different factions within the country, just as it is under attack from outside; that is why it is vital to maintain the unity of the population during the conflict. If sufficient pressure is brought to bear on Russia to end the war, I am certain that Ukraine will hold elections.” This was stated by the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs, Kaja Kallas, on her arrival at the Foreign Affairs Council in Luxembourg.
