Brussels, 12 Oct. (LaPresse) – “In the event of an attack, we are ready to fight immediately, but that does not mean we are letting our guard down: we will continue to prepare and train every single day, becoming ever more ready, tomorrow and in the days to come. Preparing to fight in accordance with this theory of victory means, first and foremost, winning in a defensive scenario; but demonstrating our readiness is also crucial to preventing conflicts. Showing that we are ready to act in accordance with our theory of victory is, therefore, the key to winning through deterrence. And, as a defensive alliance, it must be clear to everyone that maintaining effective and credible deterrence is precisely our objective.” These are the words of the Supreme Allied Commander Europe, Alexus G. Grynkewich, speaking at the Warsaw Security Forum whilst presenting ‘The Theory of Victory: How to Achieve Military Success Against Russia in Terms of Deterrence and Defence?’. “Every activity, every exercise and every zloty, euro, dollar, lira, pound or krona that we invest contributes to this aim. Our theory of victory enables us to focus our efforts on demonstrating that we are ready to block, weaken and defeat the adversary,” he adds. “Our land forces deployed on the eastern flank,” he explains, “will train and demonstrate their ability to halt any attack. Our air and naval forces will train and demonstrate their ability to acquire and maintain freedom of manoeuvre, as well as to generate multi-domain effects to further wear down any attack. “We will invest in long-range precision strike capabilities — both high-end and more affordable ones —, in sensor networks and in a ‘cloud’ for military operations, in order to strengthen our ability to break any adversary’s warfighting system, rendering it powerless and incapable of continuing the attack.”
