London (United Kingdom), Oct. 13 (LaPresse) – The head of MI5, the United Kingdom’s domestic security and counterintelligence agency, has stated that Iran is seeking to target military sites in the UK and that the alleged plot to attack the US-operated RAF base at Fairford in September “is not an isolated case”. Ken McCallum said that Tehran is seeking to step up its hostile activities in the UK, going beyond the traditional targets represented by Iranians opposed to the Islamic authorities. These activities include arson and acts of sabotage against Jewish sites which, according to London, were carried out by groups acting on behalf of Iran. McCallum said that another “significant change this year is Iran’s ambitions to target more heavily protected sites, such as military facilities”. The incident at RAF Fairford “is not an isolated case. There have been other examples, not only in the UK but around the world,” McCallum said.
